Make It Work!

Ah!!! Olivia got the BEST present ever from my brother and sister-in-law. And when I say best present ever, I mean "present that I want to steal!" Its the 600+ piece Project Runway set!!! Seriously people. If I wasn't a nice person, I would have shoved her, grabbed it and run! So many new little markers, so many brand new sharp colored pencils, so many little sketch books...

So.... what's a mom to do when her kid has something she wants? "Team Challenge!" You have to spin this spinner 4 times and it tells you some part of your challenge with each spin. So when it was all said and done we had to make a costume, with ruffles, from the 1980's in 1 hour. Well, 1 hour turned into a couple of days, seeing as how anytime we got settled down someone needed something. (And she did have to go to school...)
Miss O did this sketch.... and I got to sewing. This kit not only comes with a wooden modeling mannequin- it came with a precious little dress form!!!
My "Work Space"!End of Day 1 Please note: It is really hard to sew a) sequined fabric and b) little tiny clothes. I sewed, she continued to sketch a handbag, the accessories and make-up style wanted... I squinted and sewed. And then we had to have a meeting of the minds. I didn't think I could handle sewing two more layers of ruffles to that tiny little dress. So we compromised and I made one to go down the shoulder and then she decorated the overlay...

At this point, Jas came in and did his best Tim Gunn expression. He looked at it, paused, and then told us,(read in your silliest Tim voice:) "I see where you're going with this. Just make sure if doesn't look like something Miss Piggle-Wiggle would wear. Alright. Carry on." Then he turned to Olivia and told her to make sure that the style fit her aesthetic and to not let me, as the Team Leader, loose sight of who she is! Ha!!! He even had Luke come in and shout at us, "One hour til the run-a-way!"It was fabulous!!!

The front turned out super cute. The back? A big, hot mess!
I can only imagine what Nina would say!!
"The stiches are showing! The hemline is a mess! This looks like a 7 year old did it"O
Olivia thought this was hilarious! Congratulations, Miss O- You are the challenge winner!

This is the most wonderful thing I have ever seen! What an inspired gift!
I can't wait to see this in real life.
All that practice with my costume croquis is paying off...
Oh- and faux sequins are the hardest thing to sew, ever. So don't feel bad.
